THE BEAUX' STRATAGEM
The Play

Theatricalia: Seems to be a work in progress, as much of the information is only partially present, but the site offers a list of Beaux' Stratagem productions with some related information.

George Farquhar

About Farquhar: A biographical take on Farquhar from the Shakespeare Theatre Company's site, written by Akiva Fox. Check out the rest of the Beaux' Stratagem for further musings on and tidbits regarding the play.

Literary Tours of 18th-Century London: Includes a section dedicated to the theatres. A student project from the University of Michigan.

London Lives: Okay, so Stratagem is set in Lichfield, not London, but no slight sense of the city winds through the entire play (consider the woes of Mrs. Sullen, ne?). Then, too, the site might tell a bit about the world in which Farquhar himself lived.

Old Bailey Online: Old Bailey court records from 1674 to 1913. Another site that falls perhaps a bit outside of Stratagem's direct scope, but may well prove worth a look (trying a search for, say, "highwayman," non?).

The Quack Doctor: On the sort of medicine Lady Bountiful may or may not have been practicing.
